Known for their innovative approach to alternative rock in the 80's music scene, The Round combined angular guitar riffs, unusual time signatures and introspective lyrics.

The Round had an authentic energy that stood out in Medway pubs and clubs in the aftermath of the punk revolution. Sharing the stage with punk bands, set them apart as trailblazing progressive rockers with catchy melodies. Rehearsing in the lead singer's front room for a full year in 1985 to build their live set, the band unleashed their raw sound in 1986 and split in June 1987.

Infused with a grit typical of early indie rock music, their brooding lyrics plumb the depths of alienation and societal critique.

With the jagged unpredictability of The Soft Boys or even Black Midi, The Round’s sound will appeal to those searching for connections in a chaotic world. Their Demo captures the energy of an early-stage recording with dynamic shifts and a lo-fi aesthetic.

ALBUM: Demo

UPC: 7316217709760 Release date: 10 Feb 2023 © 2023 The Round ℗ 2023 Herbert Records

Capturing the essence of a band in the early stages of defining their sound, The Round’s Demo blends elements of indie, lo-fi and post-punk. The recording has an unpolished vibe capturing the authenticity of a live recording. Distorted guitars, strong basslines and tight drumming keeps the momentum flowing. The vocals convey a sense of urgency that complements the songs' instrumental drive.

Reviews

They have a fiercely independent sound, an uncompromising approach and an accomplished performance. The songs are intricately structured, original and impressive.

This is luscious unintelligibility for people who think they’re deep thinkers, and these are mantric megastars in the making. Flower power rules again, only orchids and chrysanthemums this time.

The overall impression is a kind of fusion of American ‘60s garage bands, The Cure and the Cocteau Twins - Chatham Standard, Tuesday 14 June 1988

All the songs are original, with a lively beat and fresh lyrics. With so many groups re-hashing old material, it is a pleasure to see a band attempting something new. The standard of music is excellent and three nights a week practicing is certainly producing results - Chatham Standard, 23 May 1989
