Old Records

Welcome to Herbert Records, a platform for unsigned artists providing distribution to streaming services.

It aims to provide an outlet for music artists who simply want to record and share their music with no obligation to perform live. This allows a sense of musical freedom to explore multi-tracking and FX such overlaying vox, double tracking guitars and layering keys often backed by a computer generated rhythm.

We value the power of partnerships and actively seek opportunities to collaborate with other labels, producers, and industry professionals. By fostering a network of like-minded individuals, we aim to create a vibrant community where creativity thrives and innovation flourishes.

The Herbert Records' website has a file share area enabling collaborating artists to share draft recordings of songs. Artists who have access to recording equipment can upload their ideas and songs and similarly those wanting to collaborate can download them. This area is password protected so only artists accepted on to the Herbert Records roster have access.

The website has a heritage section. This includes tracks from Herbert Records’ artists recorded in the past, some recorded on 4-track cassette, live rehearsal demos and others from the early days of computer compositions. The intention for heritage tracks is for them to be presented on the website only and not distributed to music streaming services.

Currently Herbert Records operates out of two home studios in Kent. Both studios can record, mix, produce and master music ready to be put up on the Herbert Records’ website and released to streaming services.

We encourage our artists to consider when thinking to release music they have a theme or concept behind the recordings. This allows for easier marketing and promotion. We follow the standard for new music releases and use this to structure projects:

- Single = 1-3 tracks (unless one track is over 10 minutes long, then it is an EP)
- EP = 4-6 tracks (unless the total runtime is over 30 minutes, then it is an album)
- Album = 7+ tracks

Once agreed with the recording musicians, wav files of the songs will be sent to a digital aggregator to distribute to streaming platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.

Herbert Records has an account with Amuse allowing us to represent multiple artists and set a date when a recording is released and its subsequent promotion. We have tried different streaming services and Amuse seems to be the most effective with a quick response time for enquiries.

The arrangement with Amuse allows Herbert Records' artists to keep 100% of their rights and royalties allowing them to stay in full control of their releases.
